“The three rings belonged to my mum’s sister, Corinne, before she passed when I was a baby, I got given them when I was about 22. My mum and her sister were close, and even though I never met Corinne I’ve always felt a connection to her, probably because I’m so close to my mum.”
“Corinne's jewellery is what sparked my curiosity and led me to study goldsmithing. The three rings have a very scandalous, romantic but tragic story surrounding them, which I love. To me that's the most alluring thing about jewellery, it's not just something pretty to look at.”
“I studied to become a goldsmith and now I'm working full-time as a jeweller in the city for a really great, longstanding family-run business (not my own).”
“The mermaid earrings are special; to me they're reminiscent of a way vintage jewellery has been made. Every part of the mermaid earrings is handmade, and every pearl is hand strung and tied.”
“To me they have a delicate quality you see with old silks and lace, and should be handled considerately so they, too, can one day be worn as vintage in the future.”
“I know my opinion as a goldsmith is valued with a brand like Jasmin Sparrow, and the process never feels robotic or out of touch.”
“I haven't been in the industry for long, and I've been lucky to have worked with good people so far, but I know often there is a hierarchy where jewellers aren't as appreciated as the people in the forefront. With JS I'm heard and trusted, and that feels good.”
