My mother passed away eight years ago and this necklace was one of the special pieces that I selected from her jewellery box, and one that I absolutely cherish.
Its original owner was my Great Grandmother Ivy Iris. I never got to meet her, but I have been told she was a strong, capable and compassionate woman who raised five kids on her own while her husband was away shearing. My two-year-old daughter was named after Ivy Iris.
My sister and I used to play with Mum's jewellery box as kids. It had a drawer that needed to be opened with a key. It was always overflowing, you had to pack everything away carefully so it would all fit back in.
I keep the necklace in my jewellery box that was a gift from my mother for my 18th birthday. I am very sentimental and everything that has been passed down from her I adore. This necklace will go to my eldest daughter Ivy Iris, along with my engagement ring.
